Sunday is the Lord’s Day. We gather together to worship Jesus, because he’s the King of the world and worthy of all the worship we can give him. There are four key parts to a Sunday.
CONTRIBUTORY WORSHIP
The band lead us in song, but the Bible teaches us that we’re all on the worship team. Every member of the church is encouraged to come ready to pray in praise to Jesus, read a passage from the Bible, bring a spiritual language called a tongue that someone else then interprets, or to give us a sense of what God would say to us. We hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to us through these contributions. (1 Corinthians 14.26)
If you’re new and someone near you brings a contribution, don’t worry, it’s not your turn next! Just enjoy the presence of God amongst us.
PREACHING
Someone will open up the Bible to us, explaining it and offering us Jesus from that passage. We expect that we will encounter Jesus in his word as the Bible is proclaimed.
LORD’S SUPPER
We regularly take the Lord’s Supper together. This meal of bread and wine is given to us to encounter Jesus by his Spirit. It’s a celebration of his victory over sin, shame, and death. It’s a model of life in the kingdom of God.
BAPTISM
Whenever we have the opportunity we baptise a new Christian in water. We do this for people who have repented of their sin and put their trust in Jesus. Baptism is the way you start the Christian life by responding to all that Jesus has done for you.
AFTERWARDS
After we gather on a Sunday we stay to enjoy each others’ company over tea or coffee, reminding each other how good Jesus is. We encourage people to be hospitable where they’re able to and have others from the church back to their homes for a meal.
